Position: Live-In Farmworker (Single occupant) full time
Location: 20-acre off-grid coffee farm
Compensation: $3,500/month (studio apartment provided)
Position Summary: We are seeking a reliable, motivated live-in farmworker for a small, 20-acre off-grid coffee farm. The role involves hands-on, traditional coffee farm tasks to maintain and improve crop health and productivity. This position is ideal for a single person experienced with or eager to learn small-scale coffee cultivation and comfortable living in a remote, self-sufficient setting.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Mowing and field maintenance to manage grass and groundcover around coffee plots and access paths.
Spraying for pests, diseases, and weed control; follow safety protocols and equipment handling.
Weed whacking and manual weeding around trees and irrigation lines.
Suckering to remove excess shoots and maintain tree structure and productivity.
Pruning of coffee trees according to seasonal schedules and best practices.
Planting new coffee trees and replanting as needed; soil preparation and mulching.
Monitor tree health and report pests, diseases, or other concerns; assist with basic integrated pest management (IPM) practices.
Assist with harvesting, processing, and post-harvest handling during peak seasons as needed.
Routine upkeep of tools, small equipment, and work areas; basic maintenance and safe storage of pesticides and supplies.
Maintain the studio apartment and respect off-grid resource management (water, power, fuel).
Recordkeeping of work performed, spray logs, and any observations relevant to crop health or farm operations.
Occasional tasks as needed for the functioning of a small farm (e.g., fencing, irrigation checks, composting, general repairs).
Qualifications & Skills
Prior experience working on coffee farms or in agricultural settings preferred.
Comfortable using mowers, string trimmers, backpack sprayers, pruning tools, and other common farm equipment.
Understanding of coffee cultivation tasks (suckering, pruning, planting) and seasonal cycles is a plus.
Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
Familiarity with safe pesticide handling and adherence to label and farm safety protocols.
Self-motivated, problem-solving attitude, reliable, and able to work independently.
Good communication skills and willingness to follow direction from farm manager/owner.
Valid driver’s license and social security card required.
Ability to live off-grid and manage resource-conscious living (water, fuel).
Living Arrangements & Conditions
Private studio apartment on the property provided as part of compensation.
Off-grid living: electricity is propane based, water is sourced onsite (details to be provided in interview), and heating/cooking arrangements discussed during hiring. Candidate must be comfortable with these conditions and resource-conserving practices.
Location is rural; personal transportation required for errands or emergencies.
Work Schedule
Full-time, seasonal variability in hours; busiest during pruning and harvest seasons. Weekend or occasional evening work may be required during peak periods. Time off and schedule specifics to be discussed at hire.
Safety & Training
Training will be provided on farm-specific practices, equipment use, and safety protocols.
Worker must follow all safety rules, use personal protective equipment (PPE) when spraying or using machinery, and maintain accurate spray logs.
