Habitat for Humanity Hawaii Island is a local non-profit seeking individuals with some construction experience to work alongside volunteers and homeowners, under the supervision of a Construction Manager, to assist in building homes.
Responsibilities will include assisting the Construction Manager in hands on construction tasks performed in a safe and efficient manner, helping the Construction Manager to oversee volunteers performing construction activities, carrying supplies and materials where needed on the job site, and job site clean-up.
Individual must have ability to pay attention to detail and follow instructions, be dependable and timely, and have a willingness to learn about all construction trades and undergo training to enhance skills and capabilities. In working with all people of various levels who may be at the job site (which may include other employees, homeowners, Board members, and volunteers) the individual must be calm, patient, respectful, courteous, and be a good listener and communicator. Previous residential construction experience is a plus.
The position is full time and will require traveling to job sites throughout the island with the majority of current sites located on the east side of the island. Individuals residing in the Hilo area will have some car pool opportunities to west side job sites. Work week is Tuesday through Saturday, with typical hours of 8-4. Certain volunteer days (typically Saturdays) or commute days will usually have early morning start times.
