Full-time Dairy Farm Worker and Kitchen Processing on Kaua’i Kunana Dairy & Farm

Job includes work in animal husbandry, dairy operations, pasture management, value-added food production, light janitorial, orchard production and field crop production on small family farm on North Shore of Kaua’i. Our farm was established in 1979 and we opened our small goat dairy and commercial kitchen in 1999.
Qualifications:
Reliability and adaptability are the two most important abilities for this job. No two days are exactly alike and opportunities to learn are many and varied. Approximately 50% of the work will be in value-added food production in a certified kitchen. The other 50% will be outside working with dairy goats, chickens, and crop production. Must love animals and outdoor work. Several milking shifts each week after training. There are split shifts on some days to cover evening milkings and shifts are divided between our three employees and owner. Preferred candidate will have a basic understanding of the hygiene and food safety needed in a commercial kitchen. Food-handlers certificate (on-line course) will be required for attending farmers’ markets. Must have a current drivers’ license to help with deliveries and errands. Applicant must be physically fit to lift 50 lb. feed bags, clean goat yards, and lift milk cans, etc. Wear proper attire at all times including closed toe shoes/boots, proper safety gear depending on the task assigned. The applicant should have a strong desire to learn sustainable farming practices and have the ability to work with customers at markets and on the farm. All employees work a minimum of 30 hours with two days off.
Compensation:
Housing and utilities are provided without rent for one person only. NO PETS. Clean, cozy, fully furnished housing. The living space has its own bathroom and cooking facility. Washing machine is shared with other employees. Hourly starting wage is $16.00 with pay increase after training period. Medical insurance is provided after one month if needed. Excess produce from the orchards and gardens is available every week. Value-added products can be purchased with a 20% employee discount. There is an employees vegetable garden also to those who are interested in growing their own favorite vegetables.
This is a drug-free, no-smoking property. The farm is not remote, but Kaua'i Bus stops are not close by.
