This is a full-time position for an Immigration Law Paralegal located in Honolulu, HI. Work environment is flexible with options to work in the office, remotely, or a hybrid of the two.
Duties
Draft and send engagement agreements and client intake forms, open and maintain client files
Meet with clients to gather requested documents and information to file immigration applications/petitions
Send petition/application forms to clients for review/signing
Under attorney supervision, review case documents regarding clients’ past criminal records, immigration violations, possible grounds of inadmissibility/deportability, etc.
Under attorney supervision, research the availability of documents from foreign countries and review the sufficiency of documents provided
Prepare immigration and naturalization applications/petitions for attorney review and approval
Notify clients of notices received, prepare correspondence on behalf of attorney
Correspond with U.S. embassies/consulates, USCIS and local government agencies
Under attorney supervision, respond to clients’ procedural questions
Perform administrative duties such as answering phone calls, photocopying/scanning/mailing, scheduling/notifying clients of appointments
Qualifications
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with professionalism in client interaction
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfort learning case management software
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
Research skills, including the ability to locate official documents and navigate government websites
Strong proofreading and document formatting skills
Ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently under attorney supervision
Prior immigration law experience preferred, but not required (training will be provided)
Fluency in a second language is a plus (especially Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Ilokano or other languages commonly spoken in Hawaii)
