Do you love buying and merchandising? We've got the job for you! Food Pantry & Kalama Beach Markets is currently seeking two experienced Buyers to support the Perishable and Non-Perishable departments.
Summary:
Taking strategic direction from the vice president of sales and operations, works with the senior planner to drive sales and profitability for non-perishable departments (dry grocery, frozen, dairy, GM/HBC, natural, and liquor) and perishable departments (produce, meat, seafood, deli, bakery, prepared food, beverage/coffee and floral). Effectively manages assigned departments by continually optimizing sets and driving innovation. Responsible and accountable for achieving department sales, profit dollars and growth objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as company subject matter expert for assigned departments and assumes the lead role in the selection and procurement of merchandise, while staying abreast of trends, competition and regional preferences (traveling as needed).
Develops, maintains, and enhances established merchandising programs, including - but not limited to - store merchandising presentation, product selection, product mix, authorizations, gross margins and sales.
Works collaboratively with Foodland non-perishable and perishable sales departments to leverage buying power, maximize synergies and ensure best access to vendor community.
Acts in a visionary role for the company to keep department categories fresh and in the forefront of food trends and innovation.
Assumes the lead role with new store openings, renovations, resets and store merchandising projects, and ensures the timely and accurate ordering and delivery of products, fixtures and equipment are executed.
Develops standard “sets” by store type - including but not limited to - space allocation, product location, product selection and product set.
Develops, implements and monitors seasonal products (related to national and regional holidays, sporting events) to drive interest, sales and margin.
Responsible for budgeting, forecasting and achieving weekly, quarterly and annual category sales goals, profit dollars, growth and share of market in assigned departments.
Manages assortment (including item setup & maintenance), determines pricing strategy and planogram process for assigned categories.
Supports development of marketing strategy related to perishable departments.
Manages supplier and vendor relationships; interviews and negotiates with manufacturers.
Reviews and communicates results on assigned categories both internally and externally as needed, including strategic review.
Participates in special projects as assigned (e.g., shrink reduction, reinvention, inventory reduction).
Proofs ads, promotions and collateral materials and reviews and recaps performance.
Manages, evaluates, mentors, trains, and develops main office and store teams.
Assembles teams to execute store resets and refreshes.
Collaborates with and visits stores to support the operations team to achieve consistent program execution and achieve performance goals.
Supervises and coaches direct reports in the performance of their duties; completes performance reviews and provides feedback to direct reports, if applicable.
Other duties as assigned to fulfill company objectives.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
5+ years experience in a buying position with a strong planning and merchandising background.
Demonstrated ability to coach and train.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook and retail reporting and schematic software.
Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
Strong communication skills.
Excellent attention to detail.
Ability to travel independently.
