PROGRAM DIRECTOR SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The KKCR Program Director (PD) is responsible for the overall sound of the station, ensuring programming achieves station’s mission goals. The PD manages all KKCR volunteer programmers, as well as all elements related to programming. The PD works with the General Manager to develop and maintain overall KKCR programming goals and vision and its associated station sound. The PD works with the Development Director to ensure station messaging aligns with the needs of essential stakeholders. The PD works with the Operations Director for equipment related issues.
The duties of the Program Director include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
-Supervise all on-air radio programs and programmers. Manage broadcast schedule.
-Proficiently use broadcast software and update as needed:
-Program Megaseg for automation in the event of schedule holes. Schedule messaging, update archives. Manage message scheduling in overnight Hawaiian.
-Use Spinitron to manage broadcast schedule and assign accounts to volunteers.
-Update Digicart with current on-air messaging.
-Use Wordpress for volunteer interaction.
-Proficiently use audio recording software to create recorded messages and archived recordings for website.
-Work with Development Director to ensure successful on-air fund drives. Collaborate for outreach events and live broadcasts.
-Analyze ratings reports and make program adjustments to meet targets.
-Recruit and train volunteer on-air programmers. Oversee all KKCR training curricula. Update as needed.
-Produce comprehensive annual evaluations of all on-air programmers, as well as ongoing direct feedback.
-Perform quarterly compliance reporting to the FCC.
-Issues and Program Logs
-SoundExchange data
-Work with co-workers for social media campaigns.
-Pitch in for station cleanliness and morale.
-Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Understanding of public radio programming best practices and principles. Sources: CPB, FCC, NFCB.
-On-air radio hosting and board operations experience. Effective public radio announcing.
-Knowledge of the public radio industry and understanding of the public radio audience.
-Enthusiasm for the critical role of public media in a rapidly changing journalism environment.
-Excellent communication skills including speaking, listening, writing and presentation.
-High level of comfort working under strict deadlines.
-Quick problem solver and ability to coach on-air hosts.
-Ensure compliance with local, state and FCC Rules and Regulations related to programming activities.
-Journalistic principles and ethics.
-Detail-oriented, highly organized, and accurate.
-Leadership in a creative and collaborative environment.
-Oriented to innovation, creativity, problem solving, teamwork, and the constant pursuit of audience service.
-Strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership, and coordination of people and resources.
-Proven ability to consistently work well with others, demonstrating diplomacy and respect for diverse constituencies.
-Computer skills a must: Google Drive and Google office suite, plus ability to learn basic tech.

The Program Director reports to and is overseen by the General Manager.
