About Us: Island Recycling has been in business for over 40 years and operates on seven acres in Campbell Industrial Park. Island Recycling has grown to be the State's premier MULTI-COMMODITY recycling center, helping the public, commercial and governmental entities keep more than 60,000 tons of recyclable material out of the waste stream per year.
Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Mechanic to diagnose, repair and maintain our scrap metal shredder and heavy equipment. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of electrical systems, hydraulics and combustion engines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform diagnostics and repairs on a variety of heavy equipment, hydraulics and electrical systems
- Conduct routine maintenance tasks such as change small motors, belts and wear items
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and electrical issues
- Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify problems and determine solutions
- Communicate with management about the status of equipment and any necessary repairs or maintenance
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
Requirements:
- Proven experience as an Automotive Mechanic or similar role
- Strong knowledge of automotive systems, including engines, transmissions and electrical systems
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and repair equipment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- ASE certification or equivalent preferred but not required
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
