The National Solar Observatory is hiring a Mechanical Technician II to help maintain and support the Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope at 10,000’ elevation.
What You’ll Do:
Perform mechanical repairs and routine maintenance
Assist with installs, upgrades, and system troubleshooting
Read manuals/drawings and update documentation
Do basic fabrication (drilling, forming, machining, etc.)
Operate cranes, forklifts, and aerial lifts
Keep tools, parts, and work areas organized
Follow strict safety procedures
What You Need:
HS diploma + technical/vocational training
2+ yrs mechanical maintenance experience
Able to use hand/power tools and read drawings
Basic computer skills
Able to lift 50 lbs and work at height/elevation
Great to Have:
Certifications (HVAC, EPA 608, NIMS, AWS, ASE, A&P, etc.)
Experience with pumps, HVAC, pneumatics, welding, machining, or CMMS
Crane/rigging experience
Pay: $32–$41/hr DOE
