Looking for a back deck person with good people skills for an Offshore and Nearshore 6 Pac sportfishing charter boat in Hilo, Hi. You MUST have transportation to/from dock and experience with sportfishing charters, and not just "commercial fishing" as it's a different game. "I'd like to try it" NEED NOT APPLY and you will not get a response. You must be in good health without physical disabilities as this job is physically demanding. You must have some prior experience, know how to run the deck with paying passengers, have knowledge of offshore, Pelagic and Bottom fishing, handle large tackle and know how to gaff fish, handle and setup outriggers, be able to handle pressing situations (CPR and First Aid Trained) and attend to tourists needs and first-timers. You will need to know some boat maintenance as well. Hilo Windward waters are very rough at times, and you must be able to handle rainy weather and very rough bumpy seas, as well as seasick passengers at times. We need an experienced person who wants to work and answers the call to work, period. 6 Pac license is a big plus, and if wanting to captain, must have current Merchant Mariner credentials and health cert., as well as random drug tests. You will be paid a fair cash wage if captaining.
We get from 4-24 charters a month. During Whale Watch season, possibly more and possibly 2x's a day, so you must be flexible, and able to help with a couple day's notice as tourists/guests will book last minute trips with us. We also book shoreline cruises and Burials at Sea ash spreading's.
We support monthly Veteran's fishing trips through our organization "Hook Line and Hero's". You will be tending to these men and women who sacrificed for their country and will be paid as a separate rate.
INDUSTRY STANDARD IS YOU ARE PAID BY CUSTOMER TIPS FOR EACH TRIP. YOU WILL GET A MINIMUM BASE PAY AND IF YOU DO NOT GET TIPPED, THAT IS ALL YOU GET. YOUR PERFORMANCE DETERMINES YOUR TIP PAY. If you are on top of things, you get good tips, plain and simple.
