Summary StatementThe City of Boise's Adaptive Recreation program offers recreational, social, and educational programs for individuals with disabilities.Adaptive Recreation Leader:

Leads programs, camps, and/or events for youth and adults with disabilities at community centers and out in the community.

Assists supervisor and staff in coordinating safe, fun, and appropriate activities.

Works is performed using independent judgment and discretion.

This position is open to all interested persons aged 19 and older.

This position is designated as At-Will.

Essential FunctionsLeads groups of adults with disabilities involved with Boise parks and recreation's adaptive recreation program on pre-established activities and outings in the community such as bowling, sporting events, movies, dinner, dances, etc. Assists supervisor and staff in coordinating safe, fun and appropriate activities. Will be required to drive a 12-or 15-passenger van to transport participants to/from activities. (50%)Ensures the safety of the participants while in the community. Properly manages money for group activities in the community. (20%)Occasionally works one-on-one with individuals with disabilities so they can fully integrate into parks and recreation programs. (10%)Acts as liaison between parks and recreation and activity destinations. (10%)Performs other duties as assigned. Total Percentage = 100%RequirementsRequired Knowledge, Experience, And TrainingSix months' experience volunteering or working with individuals with disabilities.Working knowledge of best practices and inclusion techniques for working with/teaching individuals with intellectual or physical disabilities.Ability to provide instruction to individuals with disabilities; communicate and establish rapport with participants of all ages and ability levels; deal with the public, coworkers and supervisors in a friendly and tactful manner; recognize and redirect misbehavior; use strong human relations and organizational skills; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of city employees, the general public and other organizations; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodationPreferred Knowledge, Experience, And TrainingOne year of experience working with individuals with disabilities and teaching classes or leading programs with multiple participantsCurrent certification in First Aid and CPR.Licensing And Other RequirementsValid state-issued driver's license.Special RequirementsApplicants must be able to pass:City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process RegulationDriving Record CheckDrug Free Workplace: In accordance with the City of Boise Drug Free Workplace Regulation, this position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to testing requirements including Post Offer Applicant Testing, Random Testing, Reasonable Suspicion, Post - Accident, etc. Applicants will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to hire. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Physical EffortsWhile performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. Also, the employee is always pushing/pulling up to 10 pounds. The noise level is always moderate. Work includes sensory ability to talk and hear. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand and walk. Additional physical efforts include: must be able to transfer individuals in and out of adaptive equipment and to physically react quicklyWorking EnvironmentThe work environment will include inside conditions and outdoor weather conditions. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position.Will be leading programs inside of community centers and out in the public.19-Hour TemporaryAll temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits.4-Month TemporaryAll 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment.8-Month Seasonal In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage.9-Month TemporaryIn addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.Please visit our website for further details www.cityofboise.org (https://hr.cityofboise.org/)
