Educator's. The Nurse Educator is a registered professional nurse
who provides formal/informal/virtual instruction for VA clinicians
and support staff. The incumbent collaborates with multiple
disciplines in the assessment, planning, organization,
implementation, delivery and evaluation of an effective program
including, but not limited to: orientation, continuing education,
competencies, just-in-time training and in-services.Learn more about this agencyResponsibilitiesDuties include, but are not limited to:
Maintains professional relationships with colleagues in the
Education Department and other Service lines throughout the
BVAMC facility and associated training affiliates.
Makes caring for the Veteran his/her priority while in the work
setting and demonstrates customer service principles in all
aspects of work.
Works closely with Clinical Education colleagues, Clinical
Education Coordinator and collaborative departments to develop,
present, administer and evaluate classes or trainings based on
staffing needs-assessments.
Provides instruction of American Heart Association (AHA)
training courses per the direction and guidance of the Boise
VAMC AHA REdI Program Director and the regulations set forth by
the Resuscitation Education Initiative (REdI) Training Center
and VHA Directive 1177. Courses include Basic Life Support
(BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support/Advanced Life Support
(ACLS/ALC), and HeartSaver First Aid/CPR/AED.
Assesses, administers and revises as needed Nursing General New
Employee Orientation (NEO) rotational trainings as directed by
the Clinical Education Coordinator and Nursing Service for
optimal and efficient new-hire and transferring nursing staff
general orientation education.
Collaborates with multiple disciplines as applicable to review,
assess, draft or revise and post clinically-based competencies
and checklists, Standard Operating Procedures, evidence-based
practice and policies as applicable.
Clinical Education representative, active member and change
agent for committees as assigned per the Clinical Education
Coordinator. Such committees include, but are not limited to:
Policy, Procedure and Practice; CPRC; Equipment, Infection
Control, and Transfusion.
Collaborate with departments/units/areas to choose, develop and
administer annual competency trainings, develop and deliver
Validator trainings when utilizing the Donna Wright Model, as
well as create and distribute competency education, competency
check off lists, and guidance for record keeping, tracking and
monitoring competency completion.
Maintain and secure records of training rosters and other items
as required, as well as maintaining performance confidentiality
of trainees except for managerial notification of progress as
needed.

QualificationsTo qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements

- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be

- Graduation from School of Nursing: Applicants must be a
graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the
appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of
the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was
completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for
Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate
Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign
schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full,
active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement
of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing
degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional
nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved
course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit
the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to
the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA
Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of
foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a
current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet
the requirement for graduation from an approved school of
professional nursing.
- Registration: Must have a current, full, active, and
unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a
State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the
United States, or the District of Columbia.
- English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken
and written English as require by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).Grade Determinations: In addition to the Basic Requirements, the
following criteria must be met in order to be eligible for the Nurse
Level III:
- Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and
approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR
a Doctoral degree in nursing or related filed and approximately
2-3 years of nursing practice/experienceReference: VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse
Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human
Resources Office.Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity,
keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This
position requires potentially long periods of continues walking,
standing for periods of four or more hours, stooping, sitting,
bending, pulling, and pushing. The incumbent may be exposed to
infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to
wear protective clothing in isolation situations or
operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be
exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium,
dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature,
flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in
stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient
