Performs routine automotive maintenance, diagnostic repairs, and servicing work; performs related duties as required.
â¢ Performs bumper to bumper diagnostics and repairs on light duty trucks and cars, diesel trucks and heavy equipment;
â¢ Maintains fleet management software, interprets reporting in determining repairs and maintenance for equipment and tracks repairs;
â¢ Lubricates and greases automobiles, light trucks, diesel trucks and heavy equipment;
â¢ Services transmissions of landfill equipment;
â¢ Drains and refills differentials;
â¢ Changes, rotates and repairs tires;
â¢ Performs wheel balancing and alignments;
â¢ Washes and cleans vehicles;
â¢ Changes engine oil and replaces filters;
â¢ Ensure proper disposal of engine fluids and parts;
â¢ Performs electrical system diagnostic and repairs;
â¢ Performs minor tune-ups, replaces sparkplugs, distributor caps, rotors, and ignition wires as required;
â¢ Changes front and rear brakes, repacks wheel bearings, and bleeds brake systems;
â¢ Replaces belts and hoses, valve cover gaskets, intake manifold gaskets, water pumps, fuel pumps, thermostats, heater cores, and makes other repairs.
â¢ Small engine repair and maintenance;
â¢ Identifies related resources such as tools and parts needed and makes recommendations to management for approval;
â¢ Ensure that work areas are well maintained, organized and equip to perform necessary maintenance.
â¢ Assists others on complex repairs and troubleshooting;
â¢ Performs related duties as required.
â¢ Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent;
â¢ Must possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or have the ability to obtain one within six months;
â¢ Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
â¢ Must have a minimum of two years combined training and work experience in the automotive trades;
â¢ Must possess current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications on brakes, suspension and steering;
â¢ Knowledge of where and how a variety of components, accessories, and parts fit and work in general automotive components and systems;
â¢ Knowledge of methods, tools, materials and standard practices of the automotive trade;
â¢ Knowledge of safety precautions and procedures relating to mechanical equipment and maintenance shops;
â¢ Skill removing and replacing parts;
â¢ Skill using and caring for common automotive tools and test equipment;
â¢ Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal instructions;
â¢ Ability to read and understand manufacturers electrical schematics and repair procedures and perform the needed operations when they are required;
â¢ Ability to work in team environment and maintain effective working relationships;
â¢ Ability to work on equipment in the field in potentially inclement weather.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
â¢ Most of the work is performed inside a vehicle shop where it maybe drafty and noisy, and fumes from vehicles are usually present;
â¢ Some work may be completed on equipment in the field and may require exposure to inclement weather;
â¢ Dirt, dust, and grease are always present;
â¢ Vehicle fluids, such as battery acids and hydraulic fluids, may cause burns or irritate the skin;
â¢ There is frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts, bruises, shocks, burns, and strains;
â¢ The incumbent makes repairs while the vehicle is overhead, and where the parts worked on are in hard to reach places;
â¢ The incumbent must stand, bend, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions;
â¢ Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds;
â¢ The position requires work on hard surfaces for long periods of time. There may be times when incumbent must crawl under vehicles and make repairs while on hard, usually damp, surfaces.
