GENERAL SUMMARY

Performs a wide variety of semi-skilled tasks in the operation and maintenance of the Western Idaho Fair grounds and associated buildings, and in the set-up and removal of events.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Inspects and examines buildings, plumbing fixtures, concrete fixtures, mechanical and electrical systems, and HVAC systems to determine the need for repair or maintenance;

Records type of repair or cost of maintenance and repair work;

Performs a variety of minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting tasks;

Uses a variety of hand and power tools;

Works with customers to identify their event set-up needs and ensures that facilities are customer ready;

Maintains grounds: mows, weeds, rakes leaves, cuts and prunes bushes, plants flowers, irrigates grounds, and shovels snow;

Operates front end loader, backhoe, forklift, floor scrubber, aerial man lift and snow plow equipment;

Conducts preventive maintenance on equipment;

Maintains cleanliness of facilities: picks up trash and empties trash cans, sweeps and mops floors, cleans windows and cleans and restock restrooms, etc.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Assists Event Coordinator, Security and other staff to accomplish their tasks;

Supervises crews of Sheriffs Inmate Labor Detail in the performance of a wide variety of unskilled labor tasks at various locations;

Performs related functions as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Previous maintenance experience required;

Forklift and/or aerial man-lift certification preferred;

Knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of facilities;

Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting;

Knowledge of how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide and work with simple fractions to measure material according to requirements and dimensions outlined in instructions;

Knowledge of landscape maintenance;

Knowledge of workplace safety procedures;

Ability to safely operate a backhoe, forklift, and dump truck;

Ability to interact effectively with co-workers and the public;

Ability to understand and follow verbal or written instructions;

Ability to provide excellent customer service to clients and patrons;

Ability to operate equipment safely;

Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools and ladders which require care to avoid injury;

Ability to operate motor vehicles (including light trucks) safely;

Ability to read blueprints, working drawing and read and understand maintenance/service manuals.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid Idaho drivers license, Commercial Drivers License preferred;

Must be available to work variable shifts, work some overtime, and be subject to call;

Must be able to be reached by telephone after hours;

This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The incumbent is subject to 24-hour call out in order to respond to unforeseen problems;

The workweek may involve unusual hours based upon the requirements of the events booked;

Incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding and platforms and works where parts worked on may be in hard to reach places;

The work may require the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions;

May be exposed to the possibility of burns, cuts and bruises;

Uses tools and ladders, which require care to avoid injury.
