Job Summary:
The Equipment Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining equipment used in the preparation of steel components for fabrication. This position involves safely and efficiently cutting, drilling, punching, shearing, and otherwise preparing steel materials according to shop drawings and production requirements. The operator will work closely with shop staff to ensure accuracy, quality, and timely completion of projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and cut lists. Studying technical drawing and work orders to understand the required specifications for each part.
Machine setup: Loading raw materials, setting up tools, and adjusting machine parameters according to the program.
CNC Programming: Entering instructions into the machine control unit, including zero points, cutting speeds, and tool paths.
Operate a variety of prefab equipment such as saws, ironworkers, punches, drills, shears, and plasma/torch equipment. Monitoring the process and adjusting as needed to maintain accuracy and quality.
Measure, mark, and prepare steel materials for fabrication.
Quality inspection: Checking parts for dimensions, tolerances, and surface finish for defects or inaccuracies before and after processing.
Perform routine cleaning and lubrication of the CNC machine, identifying and reporting any malfunctions.
Problem solving skills: Identifying and addressing potential issues during operation.
Follow all shop safety policies and procedures.
Assist with general shop duties as needed, including material handling.
Qualifications:
One year experience with CNC operations required.
Ability to read and understand blueprints and measurement tools (tape measure, calipers, squares) and perform basic math skills calculating dimensions and tolerances.
Ability to use CNC programming software and machine control interfaces.
Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with steel fabrication processes.
Strong attention to detail, precision, and quality.
Commitment to safety and teamwork.
Ability to lift heavy materials and stand for extended periods.
Must be able to pass pre-employment and regular drug tests.
Schedule & Pay:
Full-time, Monday–Friday Typical hours 7:00a-4:30p (but can vary based on shop needs.
Pay based on experience.
