Powder Coat Technician / Metal Product Finisher Preferred Experience
- Prior experience in welding, metal working, or related fields is preferred
- Proficiency in using hand tools and machinery
- Proficiency in final finishing on metal products using hand tools and power tools
- Knowledge of metal finishing techniques
- Knowledge of powder coat application and curing
- Mechanical knowledge for troubleshooting and maintenance tasks
Powder Coating Technician prepares and powder coats metal parts. This may also include touch-up work once processes are complete as well as other job duties as assigned. This position will also be crossed trained with other areas of shop work.
Duties include:
- Operate electrostatic powder spray gun and related equipment
- Determine appropriate preparation of surfaces and application of powder coating
- Perform surface prep, masking, and plugging
- Inspect parts for quality/defects before and after coating
- Operate cure oven
- Operate controls and functions of powder coating equipment
- Clean, maintain, and store tools and powder coating equipment
- Follow all safety procedures and protocols
- Perform preventive maintenance on powder coating equipment
- Ensure quality control sign off and inspection are complete
- Interpret technical documentation to determine correct paint application and surface finish
- Determine appropriate preparation of surfaces and application of paint
- Log production parts and processes into quality and inventory control systems
Product Finisher will be trained to perform final finishing on metal products using hand tools, power tools and knowledge of metal finishing techniques.
Duties include:
- Perform product assembly and testing according to specifications
- Utilize hand tools, machinery, and equipment for production tasks
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Metal preparation work such as sanding, sand blasting, grinding, drilling, grooving, edging and other operations to bring parts into tolerance and prepare for coating.
- Perform production spray powder painting or dip operations involving liquid anti-rust of metal products requiring finishes.
- Assemble final products by riveting pieces together to meet with specified tolerances.
- Weld pieces into final products, weld parts to finish product.
- Measure parts for quality based on quality management procedures and requirements.
- Log production parts and processes into quality and inventory control systems.
