Position Summary: CWI’s Writing Center is committed to making a positive impact in students’ lives, and a Writing Tutor is critically positioned to help students while gaining valuable professional skills. By providing writing support for students across all academic disciplines, a Writing Tutor enhances student comprehension, teaches writing skills and strategies, and overall assists students with the writing process.We offer numerous opportunities for growth, including trainings, certifications, and potential leadership opportunities within the department. A Writing Tutor also performs a variety of administrative duties, responds to and resolves common inquiries and problems, and completes special projects. This position shares in the Center’s sense of leadership and community, functions well with a high degree of autonomy, and ongoingly helps to evolve our practices. Essential Functions: Provide academic assistance to students in a variety of writing contexts and participate in data gathering related to Writing Center activities. Meet and communicate with students and colleagues in person and via Upswing, Slack, email, Blackboard, and related platforms. May collaborate with faculty to provide customized tutoring support in specific, designated courses. Contribute to the preparation of workshops and materials that enhance student understanding of coursework. May engage in more intensive tasks within the Writing Center and in partnership with Tutoring Services, including facilitating and leading small to large groups of students. Provide customer service, directional assistance, and general office management in Tutoring and Writing Centers by phone, email, or in person. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Completion of foundational English composition coursework with at least a "B" or equivalent. Has completed a fundamental tutoring course or will complete one within one month of hire. Good communication and customer service skills in a diverse, multi-cultural environment. Proficient in computer usage and word processing, database, and spreadsheet programs. Maintains strong skills in organization, accountability, and adaptability.Preferred Qualifications: At least 6 months of experience with providing support in writing, tutoring, teaching, or comparable contexts.
