Position Summary:
This position works under the general guidance of the Operations Manager to manage all aspects of field, equipment, and operations for the UI Kimberly Research and Extension Center (KREC) and oversees the field operations of the Foundation Seed program in the Magic Valley. The position ensures that the Center provides high-quality support to resident UI and other research scientists. Critical elements of management include hiring, training, and supervising the Center's full-time and hourly farm staff; overseeing complex plant production protocols associated with research projects; purchasing and maintaining vehicles and equipment essential to Center operations; and coordinating day-to-day field operations. This position is central to the successful completion of the Center's research mission.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent Four years of agricultural experience Two years delegating the work of others Working in a team environment to accomplish shared goals Following established safety practices Keeping records Farm management techniques, including irrigation, equipment operation and maintenance and crop management practices
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in agriculture, agronomy, mechanics or related field Knowledge of the requirements of field research Experience running, troubleshooting, and completing minor repairs of farm equipment, tools and machinery Knowledge of proper chemical application safety procedures
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
Must be able to: Work in adverse environmental conditions and with toxic chemicals Climb ladders, bend and stoop Lift, carry or otherwise move items weighing up to 70 pounds Stand and walk continuously throughout the workday Work in inclement weather conditions Must be able to:
