No Duties and Responsibilities Position Summary:The Academic Advisor primarily serves the academic, administrative, and developmental needs of undergraduate junior, senior, and transfer students, and graduate students in the School of Environmental Sustainability ( SES ). The Academic Advisor will demonstrate a commitment to support SES students toward a timely graduation, integrating career and post-graduate goals into their academic planning. The Academic Advisor also supports the mission and strategic plan of the SES and Loyola University Chicago.Duties and Responsibilities:

Care for students (juniors, seniors, undergraduate transfer students, and MS students in the SES ) through individual and/or group academic advising sessions, imparting a working knowledge of degree requirements and opportunities for students to achieve their academic, career, and life goals.

Understand, convey, and implement academic policies, procedures, and protocols to students, parents, faculty, and other stakeholders, while upholding FERPA requirements and the highest ethical standards.

Accurately and efficiently communicate transfer credit and remaining degree requirements (Core, school-specific, and major requirements) for timely graduation using online and offline resources.

Monitor and provide guidance to students on academic probation. Make probation and dismissal recommendations in consultation with the Assistant Dean.

Support the Assistant Dean and Student Engagement Manager on student engagement events, including the Loyola Open House events, Welcome Back Open House, Climate Change Conference, Celebration of Graduates, and Commencement.

Serve as rotating instructor of record for ENVS 200: Environmental Careers and Professional Skills. The potential to teach additional classes will be reviewed as needed, including UNIV 101: First Year Seminar.

Participate in professional development opportunities including NACADA workshops, conferences, and in-services, as needed. Some travel may be required to participate.

Provide general support for SES initiatives, events, and projects as needed. Some evening and weekend hours are required.

Serve on University-level committees as needed, including the Undergraduate Advising Committee.

Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to a fast-paced, changing environment where responsibilities and duties may frequently change.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling or related field required and one to two years of related experience.Qualifications Minimum Education or Experience:Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, Counseling, Environmental Science/Studies or related field and one to two years of related experience.Qualifications:

Academic advising, transfer student services, and orientation experience at a four-year institution.

Ability to work effectively with undergraduate and graduate students, parents, colleagues, faculty, and deans.

Demonstrate knowledge of the SES curriculum, program offerings, policies, and procedures.

Highly developed interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills that enable the Academic Advisor to adequately assess students’ academic needs and guide them to the appropriate university resources.

Ability to readily provide empathic, compassionate, consistent, accurate, developmental, student-focused, and honest advising.

High level of attention to detail and proficiency in keeping accurate student records.

Demonstrated ability to work constructively in teams and alone, as well as collaborate across teams.

A commitment to academic excellence, service that promotes justice, values-based leadership, global awareness, and diversity.

Ability to embrace, promote, and articulate the University’s Jesuit Catholic identity.

Ability to work effectively with undergraduate and graduate students in a holistic manner with an enthusiasm for providing student-centered services in the Ignatian tradition.
