The full-time Assistant Controller position is situated in the Chicago, Illinois area. This position will prepare statements and oversee processes for an Accounting Department at a well-established Real Estate Firm. You will succeed in this position if you can effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services, lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo. Manage finance department operations, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

Present executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports

Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, with research, planning, and implementation, as required

Work closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation

Ensure client satisfaction by reviewing deliverables of self and team

Perform duties beyond formal job responsibilities

Assess, execute and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

Manage the production of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts

Oversee CAM reconciliations

Lease Management

Perform tasks associated with month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

Drive the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to ensure the timely cash collection

Prepare cash-flow reports that project cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and handle daily cash management

Requirements

5+ years of progressive accounting experience, specifically in Real Estate

CPA or MBA preferred

BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

Excellent technology, analytics and management experience required

Microsoft Excel experience desired

Self-starter with efficient time management and organizational skills

Exceptional analytical, quantitative and social skills

Strong communication and social skills and able to receive criticism well

Prior work done in public accounting is desired

Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity

Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines

Demonstrated ability to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

Observant, accurate and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
