Strong collaborative relationships with leaders and all department staff releasing protected health information is necessary and will impact organizational success for compliance. You will use your attention to detail and interpersonal skills to communicate with callers. You will communicate with attorneys and legal representatives to further discuss the needs of request for medical records. Your role plays a key part in reviewing requests for accuracy and making sure we are meeting turnaround times. Every day you will work in the release of information department and work cross-functionally with the risk, legal, admitting, registration, and billing teams. To thrive in this role, you will need to be detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about handling sensitive information. Both state, federal rules and regulations must be considered when disclosing protected health information. You must also maintain a working knowledge of release of information practices when faced with completing requests for protected health information to ensure the request meets the requirements under HIPAA (for treatment, payment, and healthcare operations–TPO) and that “other” authorizations are HIPAA compliant. The associate must have intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. The associate should have experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and e-mail, with demonstrated typing proficiency.The associate should have the ability to work independently and under pressure with minimal supervision. The associate will need outstanding time management skills and the ability to simultaneously manage multiple tasks while remaining self-directed.Please be advised, this is a full time, 40-hour week, evening shift. The associate will work remotely, Tuesday through Saturday, 3:30pm to 12pm PST (Midnight). The associate can work from any time zone, but must be able to work pacific standard time hours, regardless of the time zone they live in. The associate will need to pass a background check and drug screen.Here is what you will experience working as an HIM Associate II :
Logging receipt of the release of information request into the Epic system so turnaround time can be monitored to ensure compliance with regulations
Reviewing release of information content against policies, procedures and regulatory criteria
Evaluating requested content to verify it meets required policies, procedures and regulatory requirements
Pulling and retrieving requested electronic records
Producing copies of required record components in the format requested by the requestor
Providing copied records to requestor or designated entity in the format requested by the requestor according to organizational policy
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED
For this US-based position, the base pay range is $15.00 - $20.55 per hour .
