Performs scientific tests, experiments, and analyses while working under direction of a Principal Investigator (PI) and more senior lab staff. May lead for other less experienced technicians or students. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.Other information:Required Job Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in cell/molecular biology or related field. 2 years of laboratory experience. Experience with sterile tissue culture technique. Knowledge of traditional and specialized laboratory equipment including specialized computer programs/software. Knowledge of good laboratory practice, lab health and safety principles. Ability to demonstrate protocols and train less experienced staff. Attention to detail and accuracy. Strong oral and written communication. Ability to understand and interpret results and apply results to expected outcomes.Preferred Job Qualifications: Master's Degree.Responsibilities: Gather and prepare biological samples, such as blood, food, and bacteria cultures, for laboratory analysis. Set up, maintain, and clean laboratory instruments and equipment, such as microscopes, scales, and test tubes. Conduct moderately complex laboratory tests and procedures for assigned new and ongoing research studies and may assist in conducting more complex experiments/ procedures. Operate laboratory instruments, advanced robotics and automated equipment to conduct experiments. Use specialized computer software to collect analyze and model experimental data. Follow good laboratory safety practices and comply with safety protocols. Trains less experienced staff on safe practices and lab protocols. Document work including equipment settings, procedures, and results according to lab protocols. Share observations and make recommendations for protocol or experimental design. Complete analysis of experimental data and interpret results. Oversee work and give direction and training to assigned, less experienced technicians and/or students. Performs day-to-day activities related to complex molecular laboratory procedures. Procedures include tissue biopsy, stem cell culture, and neural differentiation.
