Senior Content Writer

Sr. Content WriterChicago, ILDescription: Deadline-writing experience. You'll be producing new stories every week that will be ready to go to our editing desk after a single review from a source editor and then on to compliance approvals. We’re realistic about complexity and know some articles may take longer to complete for many reasons—but writers need to be ready to turn in clean, readable and error-free copy sometimes in hours or days, not weeks.

Respect for style: We toggle between the AP Stylebook and Schwab’s internal style manual in producing content, and you’ll receive both on your first day.

Great headline, caption and social media writing skills: Your ability to write smart, eye-catching headlines, chart captions, callouts, social media posts and related metadata make all the difference in our search rankings.

CMS familiarity: Most organizations have a bespoke content management system, and each is a little different. No exceptions here, and new hires receive training. Applicants should list which systems they’ve used and be prepared to talk about their CMS experiences if interviewed.

Enterprise software skills: Facility—if not expertise—in the Microsoft Office suite is necessary for this role for basic communication and copy creation. Hires should be prepared for training in other platforms as well.

A minimum of 7 to 10 years in markets/business journalism experience: Your published work samples will show you’ve written regularly about market events, trading/investing strategies and a range of asset classes with an easy, inviting style that can be understood by any reader.

News savvy: You pay daily attention to corporate, economic, geopolitical, social and consumer trends that can move markets. You read widely, build source relationships easily and continually bookmark ideas to fuel new articles and keep existing high-performing content current.

An interest in personal finance: You see the rich story territory between trading/investing education and how those readers can better meet their financial goals. New and prospective Schwab clients want to build trading and investment expertise, but they also pay taxes, send kids to college and hope for a successful retirement like anyone else. In this role, you'll be handling such money topics through a trader's eyes.

Remote team skills: You understand remote work, self-publishing technology and what it's like to work with teammates working from anywhere. This position is based in Chicago, but the articles team is located around the country. We read each other's work before publication and every piece of content we produce goes through a rigorous subject matter expert and compliance approval process that takes time and attention—all by phone and email.

Skills:Content writing, content editing, journalism, financeAdditional Skills & Qualifications:You’ll be producing: Definitive, timely content for traders and investors. You'll join a markets-focused team that delivers both breaking coverage and fresh, topical content that explains what's trading and how to trade it using Schwab's advanced tools. You'll also help update existing high-performing content as needed.Visuals that amplify the message. We want writers who think in paragraphs and pictures. That means you treat charts and their captions, body copy and occasional infographics as potential partners in any story you’re trying to tell, not separate elements. Ideas. Lots of ideas. We like people who read and study the markets and can come up with ideas for new and refreshed stories to pitch in a group. Some may work, some may not but many will end up as articles, videos and courses. You'll have a voice in how Schwab helps clients learn.About TEKsystems: We're partners in transformation.
