The Position
The Senior Data Engineer will be starting at the ground level, leading our long-term data strategy. They will be tasked with developing and implementing an optimized data pipeline architecture and transforming data from a variety of sources into actionable insights using the Microsoft Azure platform. They will collaborate with other members of the engineering team on data initiatives and ensure data delivery is consistent throughout applications and reports.
The primary responsibilities are:
Design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain data engineering solutions and pipelines in support of data and analytics projects, including integrating new sources of data into our central data warehouse, and moving data out to applications. Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc. Educate other members of the engineering team on design and development standards and best practices. Contribute to the continual improvement of the business's data platforms through observations and well-researched knowledge. Monitor industry best practices and trends and through acquired knowledge, take advantage of process and system improvement opportunities. Build reports and data visualizations, using data from the data warehouse and other sources. Work with stakeholders to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs. Contribute data governance and data security strategies in partnership with business stakeholders and peers.
Data Engineering requirements:
BS in Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience. 5+ years of expertise designing and developing scalable big data and machine learning products using Azure Data Lake Gen2 and Azure Databricks. 5+ years of extensive, hands-on experience designing and implementing distributed data architecture for BI and OLTP systems. Experience with data integration through APIs, web services, SOAP, and/or REST services using ETL/ELT tools such as SSIS, Azure Data Factory, and Airflow. Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Scala, etc. Advanced working knowledge of SQL and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (T-SQL and ANSI SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases. Knowledge of BI tools and experience in report writing using Qlik or similar a plus. Fundamental knowledge of agile development methodologies. Experience with various collaboration tools: Azure DevOps, JIRA, and/or MS Teams. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Eager to work with multiple teams and projects at the same time.
