Offers may vary depending on the circumstances of each case.General Summary:The Research Lab intern assists basic science and/or clinical (biological) research staff to conduct laboratory tests and experiments. The Research Lab intern is responsible for observing, learning technical skills, and conducting routine laboratory tests and experiments under supervision. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures .Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Under supervision, observe human brain harvesting, dissection, and preservation.

Observe and assist with handling of postmortem brain tissue, including but not limited to 1) Making solutions 2) Tissue tracking and maintenance 3) Tissue processing 4) Embedding 5) Sectioning 6) Manual stains and Immunohistochemistry 7) Analyses

Observe and prepare biological samples, such as blood and DNA for Laboratory analysis.

Observe and assist with basic microscopy, digital slide scanning and organization.

Use specialized computer software to collect experimental data.

Assist with storage and documentation of biological samples and Tissue sections.

Set up, maintain, and clean laboratory instruments and equipment, such as microscopes, scales, and test tubes.

Operate traditional laboratory instruments, advanced robotics, and automated equipment to conduct experiments.

Document work including equipment settings, procedures, and results according to lab protocols. Share observations and results with supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must be detail oriented and have good organizational, decision-making, and communication skills.

Must exercise good judgement and demonstrate the ability to work in a team.

Must have ability to multitask and good time management skills.

Must demonstrate computer proficiency.

Some high school required
