Sunflour Bakery and Café is looking for a new barista/sandwich maker with strong customer service skills that can join our team. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to get their hands dirty and out of corporate hospitality. We are new and small with many growth opportunities available. I promote and guide based on your skills and what you can bring to Sunflour. I'm not looking for bodies, I'm looking for people.
Being friendly and approachable is a very important aspect of this position. If you don't like shooting the shit with strangers, this wont work. We are in the lobby of a high rise apartment. Most of our customers are regulars; they are lovely and some are very chatty.
Basics of the position
Have informative and honest discussions about products and options available. Ringing people up should be a conversation.
Multitasking multiple items and orders
Making espresso drinks on a manual espresso machine.
Making sandwiches (toasting bread, guided assembly and scrambled eggs)
Light prep: picking spinach, slicing veggies for the line, slicing and portioning meat, cooking bacon, making cold brew, etc
Cleaning: sweep, mop, taking out trash, dishes, etc.
Complete opening and closing duties efficiently
General inventory communication and restocking
Package house made baked goods
Requirements:
Coffee shop experience (1yr, recently)
Work efficiently and complete projects
Ability to multitask under pressure
Genuine love for hospitality
Chicago Food handlers license
Effective communication skills
Preferred skills
Ability to take initiative and make decisions
Experience calibrating espresso machine and grinder
Very organized and willing to create and maintain procedures
Line cook or any professional cooking experience
Comfortable with a recipe/baking experience
Great networking skills and bubbly personality
Pay: $15/hr plus tips
Guarantee is $20/hr (credit card tips are usually about $5-6/hr additional. Anything less than $5/hr and I will make up the difference)
Credit card tips are split proportionally based on hours worked. Cash tips are yours daily.
10-15hrs a week currently available. We pick up a lot in the summer. More hours will be available as it gets warmer.
