A well-established manufacturing organization is seeking an experienced Human Resources & Payroll Specialist to oversee critical HR functions and ensure smooth operational processes. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with strong organizational skills, discretion, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. This is a five day, on-site position south of Chicago near Midway.THE ROLE:Manage weekly payroll processing, including auditing time sheets, calculating hours, and ensuring accurate reporting for both permanent and temporary staff.Maintain and update employee records, including payroll data, vacation accruals, and personal time, while coordinating with supervisors on exceptions.Administer benefit programs, including enrollments, status changes, premium calculations, and claims assistance, while serving as the primary point of contact for employee benefit inquiries.Coordinate performance evaluation programs and maintain documentation of evaluations, attendance, and disciplinary actions.Oversee workers' compensation processes, including injury reporting, claims coordination, and compliance with insurance and government agencies.Support union-related activities, including wage and benefits summaries during contract negotiations.Maintain accurate and organized files for employee records, OSHA logs, workers' compensation claims, union grievances, and other HR documentation.Monitor and report safety issues identified through audits or external inspections, collaborating with plant supervisors to implement corrective actions.YOU:Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent experience.Minimum 3+ years of HR experience, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Previous experience handling HR in a Union environment preferred.Strong knowledge of payroll systems, benefits administration, and compliance requirements.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS/payroll systems.
