Immediate job duties include:

Holding keys at the keyboard at the organ console, while our technicians tune the organs

Assisting our tuners with carrying in tools and/or ladder when at the job site

Writing down notes on the instrument when asked to by the technician

Assisting the technician with other tasks such as, but not limited to, opening and closing organ equipment, holding the ladder if needed, bringing tools to the technician, etc

Additional skills that would be beneficial to a technician job would include, but are not limited to:

Technical skills

Familiarity with circuit board wiring and woodworking tools

Musical skills

Job requirements for this position include:

Punctuality - ability to get to and from our starting location (usually in Downers Grove) and being on time

Reliability - ability to work Monday through Friday, and possibly late, during the months of November and December

Mobility - ability to climb stairs to get into organ lofts in churches (sometimes multiple flights of stairs), or go down into the basements to assist with mechanical issues if and when needed

Take Instructions - ability and willingness to take instructions from our technicians

Professional and Courteous - must be able to dress and act in a professional manner around clients and other employees

Customer Focused - ability to put the client's needs before your own

In addition, knowing the piano or organ keyboard is definitely a major plus!

This job guarantees work through the month of November and up to December 23rd. We would request a commitment of at least that time period from you, if you were to be selected. As stated above, this job does require travel - as we service instruments in six states, and up to 6 hours away from our home office in Downers Grove. You would meet us at our current home base, and one of our technicians would drive to and from the churches. When we travel, hotel will be paid for by the company, and you will receive a $40/day per diem to cover meals and use as you please. The workday starts when we leave the home office and ends when we return. Expect overtime during this tuning period.

Additionally, if you seem to fit with the company, we would be open to training you to become a full-time assistant technician and/or tuner. We are currently looking for both a keyholder (as described above) and an apprentice technician/tuner. Please feel free to let us know what your intentions are when you apply, however we do not require you to make a decision today.

Since this position would begin as a keyholder (the job described above), the hourly wage would be $20/hour. If we need you for work outside of keyholding (installing, removing, repairing, restoring pipe organs), pay for that type of work would start at $25/hour and be completely dependent on experience and ability.

Finally, it is very important that we build a team that works well together. Teamwork is key.
