My significant other owns a townhouse in Palatine. In May of 2020, at the start of Covid, she was offered a Forbearance program by her mortgage lender, New Rez/Shellpoint. She took it and was told the missed payments would be moved to the end of the loan. After the forbearance ended in Sept of 2021, New Rez tacked on $70,000 in misc fees including a replacement homeowners insurance policy that was not needed as there was already insurance on the property and then demanded that she accept a loan mod stealing all her equity. They then refused to accept any monthly mortgage payments and filed for foreclosure on her. This is just a terrible sub-prime lender and they have hundreds of lawsuits against them all across the country (Google it). We want to sue them to stop this extortion and to protect our equity interest.
