Part-Time Legal Counsel – Private Family (Oak Brook, IL)

Compensation: $150–$200 per hour, based on experience
About the Role
We’re a warm, tight-knit family in Oak Brook, IL, looking for a seasoned attorney to join us as part-time legal counsel. If you’re a recently retired or semi-retired lawyer with 15+ years of experience, we’d love for you to bring your expertise to our family’s ventures. This role is perfect for someone who wants a flexible, engaging gig in a relaxed, family-focused setting, helping us navigate our family business, real estate, trusts, and private investments.
Key Responsibilities
Be our go-to legal advisor for personal and family business matters
Review and negotiate contracts (think investments, real estate deals, service agreements, or employment contracts)
Work with outside counsel on things like litigation, taxes, or estate planning
Provide guidance on trusts, estates, and business structures
Spot and manage legal risks before they become headaches
Handle sensitive matters with care and confidentiality
Act as a trusted sounding board for our family and team
Qualifications
J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to the Illinois Bar (active or retired in good standing)
15+ years of legal experience, ideally in litigation, real estate, and corporate law
Sharp judgment, discretion, and great people skills
Excited about part-time, flexible work in a friendly, family environment
Work Structure
Estimated commitment: 10–25 hours per month, with tons of flexibility
Mostly remote work, but regular meetings in Oak Brook 1-2 times per month.
Looking for a long-term partnership, with the ability to adjust hours as needed
