The Douglas Center is seeking a part-time, contracted Production & Training Specialist to support our newly established screen printing, heat press, and embroidery departments. This role is ideal for a skilled professional who enjoys working hands-on and sharing their knowledge to help train others in a meaningful, inclusive work environment. You will work directly with our staff and adults with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities—providing instruction, overseeing production processes, and ensuring high-quality results.

Contractor Position Details:

Location: The Douglas Center – Skokie, IL

Hours: Part-time contracted role (1-2 days per week, flexible based on production needs)

Key Responsibilities:

- Prepare materials and equipment for incoming orders.

- Train and guide staff and participants on the safe and proper use of screen printing, heat press, and embroidery machines.

- Assist with hands-on production to ensure quality and efficiency.

- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.

- Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and monitor supply levels.

Who We’re Looking For:

We’re looking for a technically skilled, detail-oriented professional with hands-on experience and a passion for sharing their knowledge. The ideal candidate will bring:

- Demonstrated expertise in screen printing, including design preparation, screen exposure, precision printing, and cleanup.

- Proven ability to operate and maintain heat press equipment for a variety of applications with accuracy and care.

- Strong working knowledge of embroidery processes, including hooping, thread management, machine operation, and basic design setup.

- Experience leading or training others—especially individuals with varying learning styles and skill levels. You know how to explain complex processes clearly, patiently, and effectively.

- Excellent interpersonal skills, with a collaborative, upbeat, and encouraging approach.

- The ability to work independently, proactively, and reliably in a production environment.

- A strong sense of responsibility, punctuality, and pride in producing high-quality work.
