We are looking for an experienced, professional Home Repair Specialist to join the team in our Bucktown office. For over twenty years, HandiCo has been your established handyman company, providing expert workmanship and delivering great value.

The Home Repair Specialist position is a full-time, non-exempt position with an hourly pay rate and bonus potential. The primary responsibilities of the Home Repair Specialist are to order and deliver materials to the job site, perform handyman work, properly maintain all paperwork, supervise sub-contractors on occasion, and collect customer payments.

Typically, we do small jobs in houses or condos that homeowners don't want to do:

Electrical: Replace lights, fixtures, ceiling fans, switches, or run electric for same

Drywall: Patch a hole in drywallso no one knows it is a repair

Plumbing: Install a new faucet, drain lines, or valves

Painting: Paint a small room or ceiling; spot paint after drywall repair

Carpentry: Mount bath hardware, shelving, pictures; assemble and mount bookcases; repair stairs, railings, gutters, and fences

General: Pressure washing, deck staining, interior/exterior caulking, backsplash tile work, repair/replacement of tile, minor concrete/masonry work

Beyond the handyman work itself, you will act as the primary contact for the customer, managing daily communication of customer expectations, job status, and any necessary changes to the scope of the project. Accurate and timely feedback to the office is essential.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Home Repair Specialist at HandiCo is a self-motivated, technically-inclined, and mechanically-oriented individual. The position is full-time, non-exempt, with bonus potential.

The Home Repair Specialist is an individual contributor tasked with daily management of customer invoices. It may be required to work in a team environment. Critically important is maintaining a professional demeanor with a knowledgeable handyman's expertise. Equally important is cleanliness and quality repairs.

The Home Repair Specialist orders and delivers materials to the job site, performs handyman work, properly maintains all paperwork, supervises sub-contractors on occasion, and collects customer payments.

The ideal candidate is neat, detailed, and organized. The Home Repair Specialist possesses solid verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrates a work ethic of the highest professional manner.

The ideal candidate is able to communicate effectively with all team members. The Home Repair Specialist is an organized, proactive problem-solver with mechanical skills - able to assess the customer's problem and perform a quality repair.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Home Repair Specialist is experienced with electrical, carpentry, drywall, painting, plumbing, and other general trade skills. The duties include, but are not necessarily limited to:

Electrical: Replacing lights, fixtures, ceiling fans, switches, or running electric for same

Carpentry: Mounting bath hardware, shelving, pictures; assembling and mounting bookcase; repairing stairs, railings, gutters, and fences

Drywall: Patching a hole in drywallso no one knows it is a repair

Painting: Painting a small room or ceiling; spot painting after drywall repair

Plumbing: Installing a new faucet, drain lines, or valves

General Trade Skills: Pressure washing, deck staining, interior/exterior caulking, backsplash tile work, repair/replacement of tile, minor concrete/masonry work

Specifically, the duties include:

Customer interaction - determining through personal interaction what the customer wants and how HandiCo can assist

Understanding standard building practices with the ability to replicate and make repairs in various trades

Producing quality repairs along industry standards while minimizing company liability

Confirming customer invoices have been addressed, completed, and notated to provide a detailed report for billing

Beyond the handyman work itself, other duties include acting as the primary contact for the customer, managing daily communication of customer expectations, job status, and any necessary changes to the scope of the project. Accurate and timely feedback to the office is essential.

Providing technical, troubleshooting, and physical assistance on-site for jobs

Completing T&M repairs and any subsequent, quoted projects

Performing warranty work

In conjunction with the above duties, the Home Repair Specialist:

Examines the job specifications to ensure understanding of the project scope and budget

Reviews material list and edits as necessary; verifies "good" condition of material

Participates in an initial walk-through with the salesperson and customer

Maintains a neat, orderly, and safe work site while protecting the customer's property

Removes debris from the job site and coordinates with the office for trash removal when necessary

Participates in the final walk-through with the customer and creates a list of unfinished items

Maintains vehicle in a clean and safe condition

Attends meetings as scheduled

Maintains a professional appearance by wearing the Company uniform and exhibits professional behavior

A key function of the Home Repair Specialist is to perform daily scheduled handyman activities in and around customer homes. In the event that other team members are absent, ill, delayed, or overloaded, an outside contractor may assist with completion of any job. More duties:

Customer Relations

Engaging customers at the start of the job, during the job, and at the end of the job to verify the scope of work, answer questions and solve problems, and verify that all items have been addressed and notated

Prioritizing tasks while managing customer expectations with HandiCo's expectations as to the scope of the job and the time budgeted

Arriving to job locations within the scheduled window for arrival, respecting customers' time, and avoiding activities un-related to the specific job

Project Completion:

Tracking job progress and site conditions for cleanliness; notating change orders and accomplished changes to original scope of work

Recording purchases and notating shop supplies for final bill

Following the established procedures for invoicing and time management

Confirming customer satisfaction after completion and prior to departure from job site; collecting and delivering completed paperwork to Office Manager for invoicing

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent

3-10 years of experience with construction/remodeling (carpentry, drywall, electrical, painting, plumbing, and general trade skills) or comparable combination of education and experience

Strong customer service skills

Strong organizational skills

Able to solve problems, prioritize, and multi-task while maintaining professionalism

SPECIFIC SKILL QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform successfully as a Home Repair Specialist, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Equipment operation skills: Ability to use and operate all basic carpentry hand and power tools. Must hold valid driver's license and the ability to safely drive a vehicle.

Physical demands skills: Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 80 pounds of product and material. Ability to frequently drive up to a 10-mile radius to reach customer homes and other facilities. Ability to frequently lift and climb a 32-foot ladder.
