JOB DESCRIPTION
The hourly rate begins at $37.00 per hour and may be higher, commensurate with experience and skill level.
You are responsible for the Metals Department in a 100,000 square foot shop fabricating world-class exhibits, environments, sets, and interiors. You have a broad and refined skill set, your attention to detail is impeccable, and your work turns heads. Ravenswood Studio has a decade’s long reputation for completing the finest projects for museums, theaters, operas, and commercial interests. It is difficult to overstate your role in the team’s continued success. Our clients are consistently thrilled when their designs come to life.
You manage the Metals Department’s resources and serve as a professional resource for all metalwork in Ravenswood projects. Utilizing the skill sets of the department staff, you ensure that Ravenswood maintains appropriate subject matter experts within the department for all metal preparation, cutting, welding, machining, bending, finishing, and finish preparation procedures required by the scope of our projects. You manage the equipment, materials, and processes related to all department work. Motivated by an enthusiasm and natural curiosity for fabrication, you stay informed of new product developments and best practices.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Our industry presents us with a variety of challenges to tackle daily. Usually we fabricate based on formal drawing sets full of detail. When information is scarce or we are gathering information through prototyping, your ability to build from an idea or develop solutions in the shop with the Project Team is critical.
Schedule projects for routing through the Metals Department; working with the Director of Operations (DO) to keep things moving. Set goals for task completion and hold the department staff accountable.
We often need help across departments. Everyone in the shop lends a hand with material handling, cleaning, and maintenance.
Work closely with the other Department Managers, DO, and Project Managers (PM) to maximize efficiency across the shop.
Steward projects through the department, inspecting work at critical junctures to ensure we meet our standards.
MANAGEMENT:
The Metals Department staff are highly talented, creative problem solvers. You provide training on the use of the shop’s tooling, fabrication processes, project planning, project leadership, and process improvement. This training both addresses the individual goals of the team members and aides the development of Ravenswood’s capabilities.
Keeping the department moving together is another important aspect of your job. Ensure that everyone has the most current information regarding process, company policy, important updates, and the like.
Coordinate schedules and department layout to ensure efficient fabrication and completion of other Metals Department tasks.
Participate in employee performance reviews.
