Our busy local handyman business is growing and we are looking to hire for part-time positions immediately, 20-40 hours per week, flexible work schedules. We’ll rely on you to keep our clientele satisfied by doing semi-skilled and skilled repairs and assignments within the Oak Park, River Forest, Berwyn, Riverside and Forest Park areas, the majority of our clients live in 100+ year old houses. Jobs may include short repair appointments as well as medium sized repair/rehab multi-day projects. You must be well-organized with strong general repair, carpentry and drywall skills and basic plumbing and electrical knowledge. A keen eye for detail and physical stamina are valued greatly in this job. We ask that you have your own well stocked general toolbox, a smartphone, and a reliable vehicle with auto insurance.
Must present professional appearance and conduct at all times.
We called the guy. He is pretty much only a painter. Can do some small drywall patching. Has zero experience with electrical and plumbing. Has helped with some baseboard installation but that’s it.
This is what we should be listing/looking for: our ideal candidate
-their own reliable vehicle
-has at a bare minimum, these basic tools: cordless drill, impact driver, circular saw, and multi tool. Hammer, screw drivers, crescent wrench, various plumbing and electrical wrenches, trim and demo pry bar, stud finder, carpenter square, voltage and outlet tester, flashlight, caulk gun, levels (bullet and 2’), drywall pan and various sized blades, (the more tools the better)
Has experience with:
-carpentry: trim, jam, and casing installation and repair, door installation (interior and exterior) and trouble shooting, storm door installation, deck, fence, and porch repair,
-drywall and plaster repair and finish
-painting
-basic electrical: light fixture and ceiling fan installation, outlet and switch replacement including three way, GFCI, and smart switches, TV installation and mounting,
-basic plumbing: toilet installation and parts replacement, kitchen and bathroom faucet and drain installation, garbage disposal installation
-looking for someone who is self motivated, reliable, can work independently, good with time management, can professionally interact with clients, can problem solve and get creative to find solutions.
Starting rate is $20-$40 per hour depending on skill level and experience.
