Chicago Marine Canvas is an award winning marine canvas and upholstery shop located on the NW side of Chicago. We primarily service boats in the seven Chicago harbors but also work north to Wisconsin and east to New Buffalo, MI. FT Position earns paid holidays, vacation, sick days along with health insurance (health, dental and vision).
We are in need of a sewer and/or upholster with industrial machine experience for this dynamic position. Duties would also involve field work on site at boat harbors in the summer and/or boat storage buildings (heated indoor) during the winter. Job duties include but are not limited to -
- Sewing on all canvas items
- Learn to sew new marine canvas projects graduating to the complex patterns/projects
- Cutting and layout of canvas for sewing
- Assist in Measuring for new canvas covers and enclosures on yachts and boats
- Assist in Patterning and Installing exterior marine carpeting, foam decking and synthetic teak flooring.
- Assist in all types of canvas and upholstery installations on yachts and boats
- Assist upholster in a variety of tasks
- This is not a sales job but there will be customer interaction in presenting ideas and options for various customer projects.
Other important information -
- Must be mechanically oriented.
- Excellent problem solving skills needed.
- The ideal candidate will be independent, have a general knowledge of boating.
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools along with hardware.
- This will be an hourly position with an end of season bonus, hourly rate will be based on experience.
- We require 40 hours per week (open M-F 8am-5pm w/1 hour lunch) with overtime at 1.5x hourly rate. Between April-October we could be working 50-60 if your schedule allows (not required)
- Be able to carry up to 25 lbs for extended distances (ex. from vehicle to boat on dock).
- Background check is required along with references of employment.
