Job Description:Job SummaryLeads and/or supports the execution, the development and the ongoing management of procurement category strategies at a local, regional – and when appropriate a global level, to foster a portfolio of goods and services initiatives with a typical contract value of up to three (03) million dollars (USD). The majority of this portfolio is regional and/or local in nature. In the case of global, high value initiatives, the Associate Category Manager will work in support of the Group Category Lead and/or Category Manager to ensure the successful completion of the effort.The Associate Category Manager works with stakeholders (functional, procurement and supplier), to execute strategy and tactics for procurement category and initiatives and, where applicable and appropriate, ensures ongoing management of supplier contracts and relationships.This job comprises of four key activities:

Procurement category strategy

Sourcing of goods and services

Procurement-led change

Job ResponsibilitiesCategory Strategy

Leads projects and initiatives with a contract value of typically three (03) million dollars that are regional and/or local in nature. Assists the Procurement Category Manager with more complex, higher value and/or global initiatives.

Adapts to change and demonstrates commitment and effort in procurement activities.

Stays informed and shares best practices across categories, geographies and teams. Mentors less senior team members.

Sourcing of Goods and Services

Leads the creation and establishment of a sourcing process through planning, defining business needs, assessing supply market, defining strategy, execution, supplier selection and contracting. Ensures the delivery of the appropriate service and commercial outcomes for local and/or regional projects and initiatives.

Supports the Procurement Category Manager in the strategy and execution of global, more complex and high value initiatives.

Procurement-Led Change

Identifies changes in supply market and demand conditions to deliver innovative services and commercial solutions.

Identifies potential opportunities to improve service and how to reduce costs by challenging and continuously improving the what, how, when, where and why goods and services are purchased.

Contract Management

Oversees contracts to ensure all obligations are fulfilled, risks are mitigated and contracts remain valid throughout their lifecycle. Holds internal organization and suppliers accountable for their actions.

Defines and executes a contract management program (including continuous improvement, variance management, contract compliance and governance) for nominated suppliers to ensure that the appropriate value is secured from contracts.

Domain Knowledge

Navigates procurement at a regional and/or local level; takes initiative to drive procurement-led change.

Utilizes market and business intelligence to shape the strategic category agenda while delivering on their initiative plans.

Ensures the effective conclusion of commercial and service arrangements that meet the business needs.

Fully leverages procurement toolbox (spend data analytics, GNFR pipeline, contracts database, e-procurement etc.) to optimize results.

Applies knowledge of commercial contracts, understanding and/or experience with the construct of commercial contracts that capture commercial and service requirements.

Communicates to all levels of the organization to ensure all stakeholders are informed.

Commercial

Applies commercial expertise at a local/regional level to optimize project design and minimize project duration and cost.

Applies financial models (e.g. total cost of ownership, net present value) to ensure projects are in line with budget.

Stakeholder Engagement

Navigates and influences a multi-functional/multi-cultural international stakeholder (functional, procurement and supplier), environment.

Operates at multiple levels within the organization and with suppliers.

Collaborates with internal and external resources to develop strategies that meet department goals within budget and established timelines.

Project Management

Ensures project initiatives and other work is completed within the agreed timeline and budget through managing risk, opportunities, resources and costs to achieve the right outcome.

Strategic Thinking and Strategy Development

Analyzes and problem solves category opportunities; compares and contrasts/evaluates options and selects the optimal solution. Utilizes spend information/data, business knowledge and market insight to identify opportunities for sourcing projects and initiatives.

Applies domain expertise to develop the ‘best way’ forward; explains why the way forward makes best sense; encourages others to adopt.

Escalates problems when necessary and provides solution recommendations.

Informally Leading Teams

Applies experience in leading teams cross functionally and/or direct reports; at times, leads team across local and/ regional business units to ensure timely and appropriate conclusions.

Provides leadership and guidance to less senior team members, understands their team’s strengths, weaknesses and motivations.

Develops and mentors staff through open communication and training and development opportunities; builds and maintains employee morale and motivation, while fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. May advise on policies and procedures internally and externally resources.

Bachelor’s Degree at least 2 years Procurement experience OR High School/GED + at least 5 years Procurement experience.

At least 2 years of experience applying procurement practices/strategies focused on meeting the business challenges, P&L needs, and the needs of the organization and experience assisting in the development and implementation of requirements/change management methodologies to execute strategic sourcing activities.

Experience collaborating with internal and external resources to develop strategies that meet department goals within budget and established timelines.

Experience assisting in supplier negotiations, developing and implementing sourcing strategies.

Experience establishing & maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization, in the business community & with vendors.

Experience using time management skills such as prioritizing/organizing and tracking details and meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates.

Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: using SUM function, setting borders, setting column width, inserting charts, using text wrap, sorting, setting headers and footers and/or print scaling).

Intermediate level skill in Microsoft PowerPoint (for example: applying a theme, formatting character spacing, inserting a picture, changing slide layout and theme colors, adding transitions, customizing slide numbers, changing chart style and/or formatting font).

Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Word (for example: inserting headers, page breaks, page numbers and tables and/or adjusting table columns).

At least 1 year of experience in indirect management of team members, including assisting in the development, training and assignment of work/projects to other team members.

Able to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and nationally and internationally).

Preferred Qualifications:

CPM, CPSM or MCIPS certification as awarded by or actively studying towards such.
