Assurant has an exciting opportunity for an Accountant!
This position performs accounting duties to provide accurate and timely financial information to enable reinsurance senior and product line management to make appropriate business decisions and achieve departmental goals. Supports the accounting research function, including transaction-based reinsurance accounting research, assessment of new or updated accounting guidance, and system set up.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Perform system coding changes as requested by Marketing
Prepare and process monthly and quarterly journal entries
Support the month/quarter end reinsurance close/cession process including the calculation of cessions and profit share accruals
Prepare account reconciliations and perform follow up activities for pending items
Participate in the preparation and distribution of financial reports and analyses
Adhere to SOX Control requirements
Prepare schedules (Trust/LOC, Schedule F) for quarterly reviews and year-end audit for internal and external auditors
Verify and analyze information on ceding statements & client reports for errors and adverse trends.
Review reinsurance and retro contracts as needed to ensure reporting accuracies.
Prepare wires and check requests for reinsurance / profit share settlements.
Basic Qualifications Required - Experience, Skills and Knowledge:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
2+ years general accounting or reinsurance experience
Experience working with major database platforms, such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle and IBM DB2
Strong analytical, quantitative and problem-solving abilities
Must have extremely strong MS Excel skills
Strong verbal and written communication, analytical and problem-solving skills
Knowledge of procedural controls and data validation techniques required
The ability to work both independently and collaboratively with data systems teams
Ability to switch from complex to routine tasks when required.
Preferred Experience, Skills and Knowledge:
CPA certified a plus
Demonstrates strong analytical and research skills
Strong understanding of GAAP/STAT accounting concepts
Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills
Good organizational skills
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, V-look ups, marcos, etc.
Detail oriented and able to work independently
Ability to multi task and set priorities to meet deadlines
Team oriented and able to adapt to a flexible work environment
