The Decentralized Systems Engineer’s role is to design, build, implement and otherwise ensure that all server and storage platforms and related components are operational and highly available. This includes ensuring the availability of client/server applications, configuring new infrastructure and developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the server environment. This role also serves as an escalation resource for the IT Service Desk team when major system issues are encountered. This role may serve as a project manager or team lead for initiatives involving major computer technology implementations.
Job Description:
Develop strategies for client/server implementations and build / maintain the infrastructure required to support those strategies
Provide technical expertise by collaborating and partnering with global IT functional areas to ensure availability, reliability and scalability of corporate servers to meet business demands.
Coordinate and collaborate with Global functional network engineering, business application, database administration and desktop support functions to ensure availability, reliability and scalability of corporate servers to meet business demands
Lead and develop policies, procedures and technologies to ensure server security
Conduct research on server hardware, software and monitoring tools in support of procurement and development efforts
Monitor help desk database for server availability issues; prioritize and respond to help desk tickets
Perform file system configuration and management; define and perform server backups and recovery procedures
Plan and implement server upgrades, maintenance updates and vendor-supplied patches
Lead the optimization strategies, performance and provide performance statistics and reports
Implement and refine server environment monitoring tools and respond to various levels of alerts as required
Manage Active Directory roles and associated technologies
Recommend and execute industry best practices to server environment in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance
Implement and manage security for all server and SAN hardware and the software and data hosted within these systems
Requirements
Specific knowledge of Microsoft core server platforms and Active Directory required
Experience installing and configuring server hardware, including SAN storage and tape backup
Experience with server performance tuning and monitoring tools
Travel to all locations within geographically assigned area to assist in efficient site operations
Experience installing, configuring and maintaining server and application virtualization technologies
Familiarity with TCP/IP, network troubleshooting techniques and commands
Knowledge of storage technologies including SAN, NAS and iSCSI
Ability to conduct research into server issues and applications as required
Strong customer service focus
Experience working in a team-oriented, Global collaborative environment
Advanced knowledge of at least three of the following:
Microsoft Windows Server 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2019
