The Connected and Automated Vehicle Research Engineer will conceive, design, execute and analyze experimental projects to evaluate the functional envelope and performance characteristics of advanced automotive vehicle technologies with particular focus on the energy use and performance requirements of connected and automated functionalities. The Connected and Automated Vehicle Research Engineer will maintain cutting-edge understanding and knowledge of developments in the mobility field of connected, automated vehicles and infrastructure connectivity technologies to improve mobility. The candidate will lead sponsor interactions and publish research findings at national and international conferences. The Connected and Automated Vehicle Research Engineer will delegate and guide team members to efficiently develop and implement advanced technical solutions. The candidate will lead the development of novel project proposals that advance the understanding of connected and /or automated vehicles and associated technologies.Position RequirementsKnowledge of connected and automated vehicle technologies with particular focus on operational and energy use implications.

Analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability in understanding complex systems and getting complex systems communicating and working.

Organizational skills in developing and managing complex data sets and analysis code so that documentation of results and reports are easily understood and shared.

Skills in visualization of experimental data, as well as in oral and written communication.

Understanding of vehicle networks like Controller Area Network (CAN), in using various computer-based data analysis and visualization languages and application (including but not limited to Python and common Python libraries, Labview, Excel, Diadem, VBA, C).

Experience in mobile app development.

Experience in development of embedded systems.

Experience in implementing machine learning algorithms.

Self-motivated, detail oriented with good programming disciplines including code documentation and version control.

Understanding of the connected and automated industrial landscape, trends and stakeholders.

The capability to interact with team members and sponsors on all aspects of sponsored research activities.

Facilitate and support meetings with federal sponsors and key stakeholders to achieve project objectives.

A successful candidate must have the ability to model Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.

This level of knowledge and skill is typically achieved through Bachelor’s and 8+ years, or Master’s and 5+ years, or Doctorate and 4+ years’ experience with a degree in computer science, mechanical or electrical engineering or related field.Preferred Qualifications:A background in controls.

Understanding in GIS and or GPS/IMU sensing, location information, mapping, and processing.
