With over 1.5 million connected assets worldwide, our teams use data, technology, advanced analytics, telematics, and AI capabilities to help our customers build a better, more sustainable world.About the RoleAs a Data Scientist, you may work on locating and obtaining data from various internal and external sources; collecting critical customer requirements; applying associated digital technologies; communicating with internal customers, team members, and stake holders; answering routine requests for information; and providing support to the teams on which you serve.Our teams are focused on using IoT and other data, technology, advanced analytics, and AI capabilities. Caterpillar uses quantitative methods such as business simulations, data mining, and advanced statistical techniques to solve problems. You may use data analysis, data management, and/or data visualization skills as an individual contributor to project teams tasked with solving business problems.What You Will DoYou’ll join a team with diverse project responsibilities and have valuable networking opportunities with all levels of Caterpillar employees. In addition, all individuals hired into a early career role in Cat Digital will participate in L.E.A.D (learn, engage, adapt, develop), which is a 12-month onboarding program. Through this program, you will gain networking opportunities, Caterpillar, Cat Digital and technical acumen. Software engineering roles are primarily in the verticals below:As a data scientist you may develop models to power asset management solutions for customers and dealers. You may use machine learning, deep learning, and statistics-based/physics-based analytics techniques on time-series sensor data, machine fault codes, inspections and analysis records, and other datasets to identify health anomalies, predict equipment failure modes, estimate remaining useful life, and build equipment risk models. Prototype, develop, iterate, test, and deploy models to production under the direction of a team lead. Successfully meeting program objectives/timelines and solving problems with appropriate supervision. Explaining conclusions to customers who have limited knowledge of quantitative analytics methods, and collaborating effectively with diverse teams to develop analytics algorithms that enable condition monitoring commercial offerings of strategic importance.What You Have – Skills and ExperiencesExamples of skills and technologies that previous hires have utilized include:
Strong python skills for data science (Numpy, Pandas, Pyspark, Pytorch, Keras, etc.)
SQL, GIT, cloud deployment
Data Manipulation with SQL, Statistical Analysis with R or Python, Model Development with R or Python
Demonstrated practical application of advanced statistical methods, machine learning, and deep learning to solve technical or business challenges
Familiarity with modeling/analysis or design/development of heavy equipment systems (automotive, aerospace, engine, transmission, construction, mining, industrial, etc.)
Degree RequirementsCurrently attending or recently graduated from a 4-year accredited university/college with a bachelor’s degree or higher in data science, data analytics, statistics, economics, mathematics, or related programTop candidates will also have
Minimum cumulative GPA requirement 3.0/ 4.0 (no rounding)
Expected graduation date between August 2023 through June 2025
Master's degree with previous industry experience
Demonstrated experience using skills and technologies listed above
Previous demonstrated leadership experience
Previous technical work experience demonstrating technical aptitude

Actual salary will be based on degree, completed degree level and prior internship experience at Caterpillar. The total rewards package, beyond base salary includes:
