Position Summary:
Reports directly to the Dean of Academic Affairs to provide quality educational programs in Mathematics to the students of Methodist College.
Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Master's Degree in Mathematics and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Possesses a high degree of integrity and commitment to general education. AndProven ability to motivate and inspire career college students. AndEffectively utilizes diverse pedagogical methods of instruction, including lecture, group collaboration, online tutorials, inquiry-based learning, and individual projects. AndMinimum of two years undergraduate teaching experience in a post-secondary, accredited institution. AndAbility to instruct developmental and General Education courses in mathematics, statistics, and college algebra. AndExperience writing curriculum for courses in quantitative reasoning, including thematic courses across the core General Education curriculum. AndEvidence of academic scholarship (presentations, research studies, publications, etc.) SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Excellent communication skills in writing, speaking, and presentingInteracts effectively with students, staff, faculty, and external clients of Methodist CollegeAbility to use computer systems effectively, including Microsoft programs, Sakai course management system, SMART classroom utilization, and online/electronic communication networks.
Essential Functions:
Student Instruction Supplement Mathematics curriculum with online materials to reinforce student learning. Select and/or prepare course materials, instructional aids, and learning experiences. Maintain student evaluations and records. Coordinate with the Center for Student Success to assist with developmental courses (and teach them if necessary), as well as student tutoring and/or remediation. Participate in ongoing pedagogy activities utilizing standard mathematical principles. Assumes the responsibilities of 24 semester credit hours and accompanying office hours per academic year. Develop placement recommendations from testing scores for developmental and college mathematics.
Assessment/Planning/Development Participates in assessment of student learning and college effectiveness. Assume a leading role in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of the didactic components of the Arts and Science programs. Participate in the development of strategic and systematic planning activities.
Employee Development and Competency Mentor and collaborate with full time and adjunct faculty in General education courses. Contribute to the revision of the didactic components of the Arts and Science programs.
