The IHR Ambulatory Surgery Staff RN reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.Responsibilities:Interviews surgical patients, coordinates patient care, and clears charts for surgery.Requires strong clinical knowledge and ability to develop patient care plan in preparation for surgery.Nursing process: Assessment, Nursing Diagnosis, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation.Perform all aspects of patient care in a manner which optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical or health care errors incorporating National Patient Safety Goals.Works collaboratively with Anesthesia to clear patients for surgery.Requires the ability to effectively communicate and interact with a wide range of people, including, but not limited to patients, families, physicians, ancillary support services, office staff, and nursing units.Persistence and follow-up work needed. Demonstrates leadership qualities and the ability to work independently.Ability to solve problems effectively yet is tactful and non-confrontational.Uses the results of quality improvement activities to initiate changes in nursing practice and in the healthcare delivery system.Performs the duties and responsibilities of an Ambulatory Surgery Staff RN in an age appropriate manner (pediatrics, adolescent, adult, geriatric) Demonstrates the ability to rapidly assess patient status upon transfer to the Recovery Room (pulse oximeter, EKG, BP, dressings, drainage, etc.) as documented.Demonstrates the ability to recognize and report to attending physician any deviations from normal lab values or responses as documented.Demonstrates the ability to accurately document on the medical record, as documented.Demonstrates a complete knowledge of the location, care and operation of all emergency equipment as observed.Demonstrates ability to communicate discharge status to attending physician as documented and observed.Demonstrates ability to appropriately intervene in emergency situations as documented and observed.Provides patient comfort and safety using appropriate equipment and/or medication as documented and reported through patient surveys.Demonstrates ability to give accurate and concise post operative reports as observed.Maintains records and logbooks as required in policy and by regulation as evidenced by documentation.Assigns pre-operative arrival times and notifies patient at least 1 day in advance of the surgery as documented.Checks pre-op charts for completion and obtains appropriate paperwork to complete chart as documented.Demonstrates ability to recognize and report to attending physician any deviations from normal lab values as documented.Reviews pre-op instructions on all patients scheduled for next day surgery and obtains necessary documentation and supplies as documented and observed.Demonstrates an ability to collaborate with patient/family to identify individual needs and assess learning readiness.Demonstrates an ability to plan patient care with the members of the peri-operative team as documented and observed.Demonstrates an ability to apply effective interviewing skills to obtain information from the patient/family as is necessary to plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care as observed.Demonstrates an ability to apply basic verbal and nonverbal communication skills to identify and reduce anxiety in the patient/family as observed.Demonstrates an ability to accurately document assessment, teaching and patient's responses as evidenced by documentation.Sets priorities and organizes nursing activities accordingly as observed.Assures patient's privacy and confidentiality.Maintains records and log books as required by policy and by regulation as evidenced by documentation.
