Patient Access Services Rep

Summary Under the direction of the Patient Access Manager/Supervisor/Lead, the role functions as a Patient Access Services Representative in processing registrations for inpatients, outpatients, and emergency room patients. Conducts professional patient interviews obtaining demographic, financial and biographical information. Responsible for cashier duties including collection of patient co-pays at time of service in the Emergency Department, collecting estimated cost of service in outpatient areas, as well as receiving payments on patient accounts. Answers patient questions regarding estimates or outstanding balance and provide patients with payment options or offer Financial Clearance assistance. Is also responsible for the delivery of quality performance and service excellence, and adheres to the PH Standards of Behavior. Education Must be a high school graduate or equivalent with GED. Medical Terminology preferred. Licensure/Certification If assigned to Whitley or Warsaw, CPR is required within 30 days of hire. Experience Must have two years of clerical experience, including proficiency in Microsoft Windows. Requires a minimum of two years customer service. Other Qualifications Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must attend the required 5 week Patient Access Services training class; and must pass the test upon completion with a score of 90% or better. If the applicant scored between 80%-89% on the test, they will be able to retake the test once more. Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of general computer skills and applications. Demonstrate the ability to multitask and work independently using critical thinking skills.
