Fluids Systems Engineer

As a Fluids SystemsÂEngineer at MTI, you will design some of today's most technically advanced, complex machines serving a multitude of industries including aerospace, automotive, agricultural, and oil well drill pipe.ÂFor more than thirty years, we have been combining friction welding (FW) with designed automation to create the best welding equipment technology and friction welding services in the world. Based out of headquarters in South Bend, IN, this is a challenging and demanding position in an environment for designing and building large industrial machine tools. You will be providing hydraulic system expertise to complement the Mechanical and Controls design groups. Your responsibilities will include:
Design hydraulic, pneumatic and lubricationÂcircuits for industrial machinery, meeting international codes: NFPA, CE, ISO, etc.
Specify pumps, valves manifolds, electric motors, couplings,Âfilters and other key hydraulic components.
Work closely with sales, applications, controls,Âmechanical engineers and vendorsÂto optimize the design of the machine as a whole.
Perform calculations for electric motor RMS, sizing for valves, pumps, pressure drop, hydraulic motor, line size, flow rates and other analysis as required.
Assist in start-up and trouble shooting of hydraulic systems
Work with vendors to reduce cost, improve performance and reduce lead times
Understand theory and application of hydraulic systems
Perform analysis of high-speed servo systems including natural frequency, acceleration time, valve flow rates and response time requirements
Contribute to the set-up and tuning of close loop servo systems.
Partner with the controls engineers to design position and force feedback loops.
The successful candidate will bring most of the following experiences or skill sets:
BSME/BSMET and 3 years experience with industrial hydraulics or ASMET and 5 years experience with industrial hydraulics
2-5 years in engineering organization, involved in design of manufacturing machinery
Hydraulic circuit design
Component hardware and specification
Ability to perform analysis and sizing calculations
Experienced user level competency with AutoCAD Mechanical
SolidWorks
Mechanical design of machine elements-preferred
In addition:
Ability to travel occasionally (domestically and internationally) and to function effectively in office, shop and field environments
