The applied molecular immunology laboratory of Dr. Rainer Fischer has an immediate opening for a Laboratory Research Manager position at Purdue University. The incumbent will work closely with Dr. Fischer to establish the strategic direction of the lab and be responsible for the design and implementation of major experimental projects essential to the laboratory's scientific research goals. We are looking for a highly motivated individual that has developed an extensive and specialized knowledge of the scientific principles, concepts and technology related to the isolation and manufacturing of recombinant human antibodies from immunocompetent donors and survivors to help launch and develop a new program in diagnostics and therapeutic antibody development. Within this program we will work with national and international academic and industrial partners on novel and emerging diagnostic and therapeutic opportunities, primarily focused on cancer, autoimmune disorders and infectious diseases.

The laboratory research manager will develop and fine tune specific methods and procedures for projects, prepare scientific papers and presentations and work independently under the guidance of Dr. Fischer in establishing and accomplishing the goals of his laboratory at Purdue University.

The applied molecular immunology lab manager will handle the daily operations of the lab that are geared towards the generation and production of human antibodies for diagnostic and therapeutic applications using state of the art technologies and approaches.

Required:

PhD in molecular immunology, biochemistry, molecular virology or a related field

One or more years of work experience in the antibody engineering space

Experience in recombinant protein engineering, selection and culture of recombinant CHO and microbial host cell lines, scale-up production and downstream processing

Ability to work independently to conceive, plan and carry out to completion applied molecular immunology research projects

Experience with proposal writing and preparation

Proficiency in flow cytometry, tissue culture, molecular biology and have familiarity with omics-based approaches including genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics as well as annotation and analysis of immunoglobulin gene sequences

Excellent writing skills

Broad-based research expertise in cellular and molecular B-cell immunology and/or flow cytometry / single cell-sorting techniques of human B-cells

Preferred:

Experience in single B-cell analytics (FACS and/or microfluidics) and affinity maturation of antibodies

Experience with SPR, phage antibody display and/or yeast display systems
