This role is responsible for leading our computing products hardware development team.  This position reports to the Avionics Display and Computing Products Executive Director of engineering and manages both engineering team members as well as other leaders.  This team is responsible for all aspects of the hardware development lifecycle, including requirements definition and analysis, mechanical and electrical design, development, integration, test, verification, and validation.  Also, transition to and support of production assets.  To support the growth of our development team this position will be located in Cedar Rapids, IA. Success in this role is measured through exceptional program performance combined with leading and developing our people and team to support the near and long-term business objectives.  This individual will also frequently collaborate with our customers, so the successful candidate must have outstanding communication skills.  The key responsibilities and attributes for this position are:

Extensive understanding and experience with successful avionics hardware development programs, including certification to DO-254

Extensive experience in the pursuit and proposal phases of development including TINA-compliant bidding process

A demonstrated ability to coach and mentor team leaders and to be a subject matter expert in the development process

Experience with managing scope, schedule, and budget for hardware development

Experience with risk and opportunity management

Identify, recruit, retain, and develop hardware engineering talent across the spectrum of entry-level to very experienced hardware engineers

Build and leverage networks within the department, within Collins Aerospace, and with customers

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Other responsibilities include project planning, organizing, resource allocation, personnel development planning, performance reviews, salary planning, and activities related to hardware requirements and integration.  The candidate must demonstrate critical thinking skills, communication skills, networking skills, and accurate forecasting of project work and costs.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 16 years of relevant experience

Preferred qualifications:

Proven project execution skills in managing large hardware teams using earned value

Demonstrated hardware/systems engineering technical experience on complex avionics programs. 

Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience is beneficial. 

Technical expertise in high-level hardware design

Experience in developing and verifying within real-time embedded systems, avionics development, ARINC Standards and Protocols (especially ARINC429, ARINC818, and ARINC653), Stage of Involvement (SOI) audits, and DO-254 certification.

The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
