We’re looking for a reliable, horse-savvy person to help with overnight foal watch this season at Abraham’s Equine Clinic in Cedar Rapids, Ia. The job would begin in mid-January through June and requires some weekends.
This job involves keeping an eye on our mares during the night, spotting signs of labor, and making sure mom and baby are safe when it’s time to foal. It’s a quiet job most nights, but when things happen, they happen fast — so we need someone reliable, calm, attentive, and confident around horses.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Watching mares (in-person and on cameras) for signs of foaling
Calling or assisting farm staff/vet when a mare is close
Helping with foalings when needed
Making sure newborns stand, nurse, and look bright and healthy
Keeping foaling stalls clean, dry, and ready
Writing down foaling notes or updates for the morning crew
Light chores, cleaning during the down times, giving medications as needed
What We’re Looking For:
Experience handling horses (foaling experience is a big plus!)
Dependable and able to work alone overnight
Good judgment and attention to detail
Comfortable staying awake through the night shift
Able to lift up to 30 lbs and do basic barn chores
Hours & Pay:
Overnight shifts, typically 10-6 or 8-8
Seasonal/Part-time during foaling season
Pay based on experience
If you love being around horses and don’t mind the night shift, we’d love to hear from you!
Send a quick note about your horse experience, references, and a resume (if available) to info@abrahamsequine.com.
