Position Title: District AccountantDepartment: FinanceReports To: Chief Financial OfficerCalendar: 260 DayCategory: Standard SalarySUMMARYPerforms operational accounting and financial reporting functions for the District. The manager works closely with accounts payable and accounts receivable. This position requires the continuous use of independent judgment. The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Required: 3+ years of accounting experience
Required: Associate’s Degree in Accounting
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
Preferred: Governmental or School Finance experience
Preferred: Intermediate Excel skills
Highly organized, detail-oriented and deadline driven
Ability to understand complex compliance regulations
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIESOther duties may be assigned. Duties must be performed on site.
Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis
Assists Chief Financial Officer with annual audit preparation.
Reviews monthly school building and grant reports.
Reviews general ledger entries, transfers, and purchase orders.
Assists in preparing the annual Iowa Certified Annual Report, Special Education Report, and Annual Transportation Report.
Accounts for District financial transactions. Ensures appropriate general ledger accounts. Verifies and inputs all journal entry and budget adjustment requests daily as required.
Prepares financial reports as needed for the Board of Education and administrative staff, as directed by the Chief Financial Officer.
Responsible for reviewing monthly general ledger reconciliations.
Reconciles cash and accounts payable each month.
Processes semi-annual billing for regular education open-enrolled students and PMIC billing.
Processes semi-annual tuition in-billing for special education students.
Testing of new accounts in the CAR COA testing file.
Oversee paper flow of all accounting data to verify proper records are retained daily.
Assists with month end closing and fiscal year end closings.
Assists with line item budget entry and monitoring.
Monitors In-Touch/Bound and other accounts receivable systems.
Internal auditing of cash in individual district buildings.
Record assets on asset-keeping system- and asset spreadsheet and reconcile
