Library Assistant I
Development Office
Permanent, Half-Time (20 hours/week)
Schedule: M-F, 4 hours between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm
Some evening and weekend work required
Salary Range: $21.08 to $27.12/hour
Summary:
Under general direction provides support to the Development Director and the Board of the Iowa City Public
Library Friends Foundation. Maintains Foundation financial records and accounts. Coordinates volunteers
for used bookstore. Assists in the production of publications and communications and assists with special
projects and events.
Examples of Duties:
Provides administrative support to Development Director and Iowa City Public Library
Friends Foundation Board, including preparing Iowa City Public Library Foundation Board committee
minutes and reports. Maintains Development Office records. Creates records, enters data, runs reports,
trains staff, performs database maintenance. Provides donor reports to the Development Director. Provides
general information to the public regarding Development activities and programs. Receives and processes
gifts to the Foundation. Deposits and tracks donations received in Development Office. Issues checks for
Development Office expenses. Maintains spreadsheets and specialized accounting program, which tracks
fund balances, expenses and income for the Foundation. Provides tax data for annual tax return. Provides
financial information to Development Director. Assists with the production of communications and
publications for the Development Office. Trains, supervises temporary staff as assigned. Trains, schedules
volunteers for The Book End. Assists with event planning. Assists with research and writing for grant
applications.
Training and Experience:
Bachelors degree in business or a related field required. One year of bookkeeping
or computer experience with database management applications required. Experience working with a
nonprofit board preferred. Experience with fundraising software and Quickbooks preferred. Supervisory
experience preferred. Must pass criminal background check.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with donors, Board and
committee members, library staff, and the general public. Skill in word processing, Excel, and database
management software. Ability to maintain financial records and statistics and create financial and statistical
reports. Ability to prepare and present fundraising campaign and special events materials. Ability to train
and schedule volunteers. Skill working with the public, including assisting with customer complaints, and
general customer service issues. Ability to work in a team environment to deliver library services. Ability to
consistently deliver excellent customer service.
