Overview:
A Trailer Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of various types of trailers, including flatbed, dry van, refrigerated, and specialized trailers. They diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical problems, ensuring the safety and operational efficiency of these vehicles.
Responsibilities:
-Show up to work every day ready to work
-Inspect trailers for damage, wear, and tear, both during routine inspections and after accidents or incidents.
-Diagnose and repair mechanical problems, such as brake systems, suspension components, and axles.
-Perform electrical repairs, including troubleshooting wiring, lighting systems, and electrical components.
-Replace worn-out or damaged parts, including tires, brakes, and other components.
-Perform preventive maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, fluid checks, and lubrication.
-Maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance performed on each trailer.
-Adhere to safety regulations and procedures, including proper use of tools and equipment.
-Work effectively as part of a team or independently, as needed.
Qualifications:
-High school diploma or equivalent.
-Technical training or experience in automotive or diesel mechanics.
-Knowledge of trailer systems, components, and maintenance procedures.
-Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical problems.
-Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
-Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
-Valid driver's license.
Additional Skills (Preferred):
-Experience with specialized trailers, such as refrigerated or tanker trailers.
-Certification in automotive or diesel mechanics.
-Welding and fabrication skills.
-Knowledge of hydraulic systems.
Working Conditions:
-Work in a shop environment, often exposed to noise, dirt, grease, and chemicals.
-May be required to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
-May be required to work overtime or on weekends, as needed.
