Position: Licensed Practical Nurse Reports to: Nursing Manager Status: Full-time, Non-exempt Supervises: Nursing Students and volunteers Department: Nursing Pay: Starting at $22/hour Position Summary: Provide direct nursing care for children and adult clients under the supervision the RN/Clinical Director and with the oversight of the Nursing Manager. This position promotes the health and wellness of Redwood’s clients, staff, and environment by providing professional nursing care and support for infection control. Accuracy, timeliness,and a commitment to quality and safety are critical to effective completion of job duties. Essential and Primary Responsibilities: Follows Individual Plan of Care/Treatment Plan based upon physician’s orders and as established or revised by the RN/CPO. Responds to medical emergencies as required. Administers medications as prescribed by a physician and authorized by parent/guardian/self. Administers other treatment or medical care including but not limited to: intermittent catheterization, gastrostomy or nasal gastric feedings, tracheostomy care, and first aid treatment for illnesses and injuries as prescribed by a physician and authorized by parent/guardian/self. Documents medications, treatments, illness and injuries on individual clinical records, incident reports, and nurse's notes. Keeps all medications stored and locked in a central location and narcotics under double locks. Provides health screenings on clients as needed and referred by direct care staff. Completes monthly assessments on assigned adult day health care clients as required and makes recommendations for changes to the Individual Plan of Care/Treatment Plan based upon assessment findings. Consults with parents, physicians, clinical director, and other health care providers about child and adult health issues, medications, and treatments. Communicates with Directors and caregivers regarding health and safety needs of children and adults. Maintains current records of medical histories of children and adults served including allergies, past illnesses and immunizations. Complies with Bloodborne Pathogens Plan and assists in training of staff on the plan as requested by Nursing Supervisor. Maintains a clean, orderly environment, throughout the day, including compliance with all safety and health regulations. Provides support to Nursing Manager and CPO as requested to contact adult day health care adults on days when Redwood experiences an emergency closing to ascertain whether the adult’s medical needs are being met appropriately while they are at home. Support for Infection Control Communicates with the Health Department at the direction of the Clinical Director or Nursing Manager to obtain recommendations regarding outbreaks of communicable diseases. Screens for contagious or infectious diseases. Communicates with directors, caregivers and parents regarding incidences of contagious diseases. Monitors safety of children, adults and staff at Redwood. Performs other duties as assigned. Competencies: Proficiency in computer applications, such as word processing, database, spreadsheet and Internet skills. Have a caring/nurturing attitude for children and adults; Be personable and relate respectfully to clients and families without discrimination towards race, gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status or other legally protected characteristic; Have adequate hearing and vision to accomplish the essential functions of the job with or without accommodations. Demonstrate good reading, writing, spelling, and math abilities to complete the essential functions of the job; Be personable and have clear speech and good expressive language to support client and/or family communication; Have reliable transportation to/from work; Be healthy and physically fit including having the ability to lift and handle adults and children; Display professional demeanor and presence; Exhibit sound judgment and critical thinking to recognize and avoid dangerous situations; Acceptable criminal background check, Child Abuse & Neglect (CAN) Central Registry and Nurse Aide Registry check. Obtain CPR and First Aid certification prior to start date, and maintain annual certification; Maintain Practical Nurse License and complete all CEU’s as required by Kentucky Nursing Licensure; and, Attain other training relevant to their position. Required Education and Experience: Current KY licensure as a licensed practical nurse. If licensed after 1993, must have completed NAPNES course "Basic Concepts of Pharmacology and the Administration of Medicines.” Preferred Education and Experience: One year experience in a healthcare environment, preferably with children and/or adult with disabilities preferred. Work Environment and Physical Demands: Work is performed in the Adult Nursing Center and the Childcare Nursing Center as well as various program rooms, classrooms, offsite summer classrooms, on the grounds, and during community outings as needed. Tasks involve: reaching, bending, stooping, pulling/pushing and lifting related to positioning, and/or assisting adults with mobility or transfer.
